PRIVACY POLICY
Effective Date: April 28, 2026
SECTION 1 — INTRODUCTION
Intentional is a mobile dating application operated by Intentional Connect LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. Intentional is designed to help verified, real people form intentional, authentic connections through features including our Date Planner, Dealbreakers engine, and Intentional Mindset Score.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have. By creating an account or using the Intentional app (the "Service"), you agree to the practices described here.
Contact us anytime: [email protected]
This app is currently available in the United States only. All data is stored in US-based Google Firebase data centers operated by Google LLC.
SECTION 2 — INFORMATION WE COLLECT
2a. Information you give us directly
Phone number — for account creation and OTP verification. Not shown to other users.
First name — displayed on your profile and in matches.
Date of birth — for age verification and 18+ gating only. Age is never shown to matches or displayed publicly.
Gender and pronouns — for matching and discovery feed filtering.
Profile photos (up to 6) — shown to potential matches according to your privacy settings.
Location (city and distance only) — for discovery feed matching. Exact coordinates are never stored — only a geohash prefix.
Dealbreakers and preferences — for filtering matches. Never shown to other users.
Quick Facts and profile prompts — optional profile personalization shown to matches.
Email address — for account recovery only. Required within 7 days of signup. Not shown publicly.
Job title, education level, height — optional profile personalization.
Category preferences you activate — Dating, Not Sure Yet, Friends. Stored privately.
Hobbies and interests — shown on profile.
Three opener questions you select — for the First Message Preference system.
Optional social media handles (Instagram, Snapchat, X/Twitter, TikTok) — shown only in blurred form until you manually choose to share them with a specific match post-match.
Messages and content you send or receive in chat — stored securely. Never read by staff except in response to a formal legal order or to investigate a confirmed safety report.
Date Planner entries — date, time, and place you propose or confirm.
Rate the Date responses — yes/no, would you go again, 1–5 star rating.
Report, block, or End-Convo reason selections — for moderation and safety.
2b. Video Verification — Active Liveness Detection
All users complete a short video verification during onboarding and approximately every 4–6 weeks thereafter.
How it works: when you reach the video verification screen, the app generates a randomized on-screen prompt (for example: "blink twice slowly," "turn your head to the left," or "smile naturally"). The prompt changes with every verification session and cannot be predicted in advance. You record a 3 to 5 second video responding to the prompt in real time.
Randomized prompts mean pre-recorded videos, static images, and AI deepfakes cannot pass verification — you must physically respond to a prompt you see for the first time.
The raw video selfie is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers within 24 hours of submission. No exceptions.
We generate and store only a non-biometric, encrypted verification token. No facial geometry, FaceMaps, FaceVectors, or biometric templates are ever stored.
We do not use your video for any purpose other than confirming you are a real, live person whose profile photo is consistent with your appearance.
If automated verification fails: a human moderator (the founder or designated staff member) may review the raw video within the 24-hour deletion window solely for manual identity confirmation. No human reviewer retains a copy. The video is deleted within 24 hours regardless of outcome. If manual review also cannot confirm identity, you will be notified and given the opportunity to re-verify.
Consent shown before verification: "Intentional uses a short video with a randomized prompt to confirm you are a real, live person. The video will be processed to confirm liveness, then permanently deleted within 24 hours. We do not store biometric templates. In rare cases of automated failure, a human reviewer may verify your identity within this 24-hour window. By continuing you consent to this processing."
2c. AI Photo Moderation and Automated Decision-Making
We use automated AI tools to review profile photos for safety and authenticity. These tools check whether a human face is visible in a photo and detect content such as memes, screenshots, pet-only images, or object-only images.
All AI checks are face-visibility-based and safety-based only.
Our AI does not infer, detect, or act on race, ethnicity, skin tone, hairstyle, or any protected characteristic. Face detection is used solely to confirm a human face is present and visible. It is not used to classify the type of face, its features, or any demographic characteristic.
We do not use generative AI to create profiles, write messages, or generate user content of any kind.
Disclosure regarding automated decision-making (California ADMT, Colorado, and similar state laws): We use limited automated logic to (1) calculate match suitability based on your dealbreakers and preferences (the Intentional Mindset Score, in Dating mode only), and (2) screen profile photos for safety violations. These automated processes do not produce legal or similarly significant effects on you. You may request human review of any automated moderation decision (such as a photo rejection or account flag) by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of the decision. We will respond within 45 days.
2d. Information generated automatically
Device information: device type, operating system, app version.
IP address — used for fraud prevention and geographic access control. Not stored in your user profile.
Log data: when you opened the app, features used, crashes and errors.
Analytics events: KPI data logged to Firestore (Date Planner rates, verification completion, retention, etc.).
Session data: screens visited, feature interactions, session duration. Anonymized.
Crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics: device model, OS version, error logs.
2e. Personalization data (no cross-app tracking, no fingerprinting)
During onboarding, we derive personalized content from your Quick Facts answers to display your "Intentional Profile" summary. This personalization uses only information you directly provided during setup. No external data sources, no cookies, no device fingerprinting, and no third-party tracking. The personalization is calculated client-side (on your device) before any data is transmitted to our servers.
Personalized fields generated from your answers:
"Looking for" — directly from your selected category (Dating, Not Sure Yet, Friends).
"Your values" — mapped from your Quick Facts selections.
"Your vibe" — one-sentence summary generated from template strings based on your answer combinations.
"[X] people near you" — count derived from server-side Firestore query of users matching your preferences within your selected distance radius.
We do not use cookies, browser storage, cross-app tracking, or any data from your device beyond what you explicitly provide during onboarding to generate this personalization. No automated decision-making or AI profiling is used for the Profile Summary screen.
2f. Information from third parties
If you sign in via Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive basic account info (name, email) from those providers. We do not receive your contacts, social graph, or any data beyond what is necessary to authenticate you.
2g. Sensitive Personal Information (CCPA / state privacy law disclosure)
We may collect information that qualifies as "sensitive personal information" under the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar state laws. This includes precise geolocation (which we coarsen to a geohash prefix before storage), the contents of messages between matched users, and inferences about your relationship and dating preferences. We use this information solely to operate the Service and never sell or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
You have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information to that which is reasonably necessary to provide the Service. To exercise this right, contact [email protected]. Because all of our use of your sensitive personal information is necessary to provide the Service you signed up for, this limitation generally will not result in any change to how we process your data.
SECTION 3 — HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
Core Service: to create and maintain your account and display your profile to potential matches based on your active category, location, dealbreakers, and preferences. To run our matching algorithm, including calculating your Intentional Mindset Score (Dating mode only). To enable the Date Planner, End-Convo, First Message Preference, and other core features. To operate the discovery feed, messaging, push notifications, and subscription features.
Safety and Verification: to verify you are a real, live person using active liveness video verification (raw video deleted within 24 hours). To detect duplicate accounts, bots, and bad actors using face-visibility tokens. To review reports and flags submitted by users.
Product Improvement: to analyze aggregated, anonymized usage data to improve features. To track KPIs such as Date Planner agreement rates and retention to guide development.
Legal and Compliance: to comply with applicable laws including Wyoming and US federal law. To respond to valid legal process (subpoenas, court orders). To enforce our Terms of Service. To manage your subscription and process purchases via Apple IAP and Google Play Billing.
We do NOT: sell your personal information, share it with cross-context behavioral advertisers, use your data for third-party advertising, train AI models on your data, or share your information with third parties except as described in Section 5.
SECTION 4 — CATEGORY PRIVACY AND WHAT WE PROTECT
You can activate any combination of categories privately (Dating, Not Sure Yet, Friends). Your full list of active categories is never shown to other users.
On profile cards and full profile views: users see only the category badges that overlap with their own currently active categories.
Social media icons are shown blurred on full profiles. Your actual handles are revealed only if you manually choose to share them with a specific match.
Age verification and 18+ gating: your age is never shown to matches or displayed publicly.
Subscription status (Intentional Premium or Premium Plus) is visible only to the account holder in Settings. Never shown to matches or other users.
Recently Active green dot: controlled by the Fair Play Rule — if you hide your own status, you also stop seeing others' active status. This is symmetric.
SECTION 5 — SHARING YOUR INFORMATION — NAMED THIRD-PARTY SUB-PROCESSORS
We share limited data with the following trusted service providers. All sub-processors are prohibited from using your data for their own marketing purposes or selling it to third parties. We maintain data processing agreements with each vendor.
Cloud infrastructure — Firebase (Google LLC). Firestore, Storage, Auth, Cloud Functions, Crashlytics. All data in US-based Google data centers.
Subscription management — RevenueCat, Inc. Transaction data only: subscription product ID, purchase timestamp, renewal status. No profile data, photos, or messages. SOC 2 Type II certified.
Analytics — PostHog, Inc. Anonymized usage events only: screens visited, feature interactions, session duration. No name, phone number, or photos. Opt out in Settings.
Email marketing — Loops (Loops Technology, Inc.). Email address and first name for transactional and retention emails. Unsubscribe via any email.
User feedback — UserJot. Content of voluntary submissions only. Do not include personal info in public feedback.
We do not sell your personal information. We are not a data broker. We do not appear on any state data broker registry.
Universal Opt-Out Mechanism (UOOM) recognition: We honor browser-based and operating-system-based universal opt-out signals (such as the Global Privacy Control / GPC signal) where applicable. Because our Service is a mobile app and we do not engage in the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no opt-out for you to enable — but if our practices ever change, we will honor any active universal opt-out signal you have set. This commitment applies in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, and Texas.
App Tracking Transparency (Apple iOS): we do not track you across other companies' apps and websites. We do not share data with data brokers. The first time you open the app on iOS, you will see Apple's standard App Tracking Transparency prompt. We will respect your choice. Even if you allow tracking, we currently do not engage in cross-app tracking and do not share your advertising identifier with third parties.
Legal Requirements: we may disclose your information if required by a valid court order, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the safety of any person or prevent illegal activity.
Business Transfers: if Intentional is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred. We will notify you via email or in-app notice before this occurs and you will have the option to delete your account.
SECTION 6 — DATA RETENTION
Video verification raw footage — deleted within 24 hours of submission. No exceptions.
Encrypted verification token — retained while account is active. Deleted on account deletion.
Profile photos and media files — permanently deleted from Firebase Storage within 48 hours of account deletion via automated Cloud Function.
Firestore profile document — deleted immediately upon account deletion. Permanent and irreversible.
Match history and conversations — deleted immediately upon account deletion.
End-Convo messages — immediately deleted from both users' apps and our servers at the moment End-Convo is confirmed.
Auto-deleted conversations — conversations with zero replies for 21 days are automatically deleted from both users. Silent. No notification.
Anonymized analytics events — retained for 12 months for product improvement. Not linked to your identity after deletion.
OTP failure logs — retained for 30 days for fraud prevention, then automatically deleted.
Moderation records — retained for up to 3 years after account closure to protect against re-registration and comply with legal obligations.
Active accounts — data retained while account is active.
Account deletion: when you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where required by law to retain it longer.
Account deletion mechanics: you can delete your account through three independent methods, each producing the same result. (1) In-app: Settings > Delete Account (this is the primary method, required by Apple and Google for users with installed apps). (2) Web: visit delete.joinintentional.com to delete your account from any browser without needing the app installed. (3) Email: send a deletion request to [email protected] with subject "Account Deletion Request." All three methods immediately delete your Firestore profile document, remove all photos and media from Firebase Storage, and remove you from all match histories and discovery feeds. This action is permanent and irreversible.

SECTION 7 — YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
Right to access and portability: email [email protected] with subject "Data Export Request." We will provide a machine-readable JSON file of your profile data, preferences, and anonymized interaction history within 30 days. Message content is excluded to protect both parties' privacy.
Right to deletion: delete your account via Settings > Delete Account, or via the web at delete.joinintentional.com, or by emailing [email protected] with subject "Account Deletion Request." This immediately and permanently deletes your Firestore profile document, all photos and media from Firebase Storage, and your removal from all match histories and discovery feeds. Irreversible.
Right to correction: correct personal information directly in your profile settings. For information that cannot be self-corrected, email [email protected].
All Users: Access — view and download your profile data in Settings. Correction — update your profile information at any time. Deletion — delete your account and all associated personal data via in-app Settings, the web at delete.joinintentional.com, or by emailing [email protected]. All personal data deleted within 30 days of request. Opt-out of marketing — unsubscribe from marketing emails using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us. Right to human review of automated decisions — see Section 2c.
California Residents (CCPA / CPRA Rights): Right to know — request a complete list of personal information collected about you in the past 12 months. Right to delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions. Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information. Right to opt-out of sale or sharing — Intentional does not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. No opt-out is required. Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — see Section 2g. Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Right to opt out of automated decision-making (effective January 1, 2026) — California's ADMT regulations allow you to opt out of significant automated decisions. Our matching algorithm and photo moderation do not produce legal or similarly significant effects. You may still request human review per Section 2c. California Delete Act (DROP system) — Intentional Connect LLC is not a registered data broker, so you do not need to use the DROP portal to request deletion from us. To delete your data, use the methods described in Section 6. To exercise California rights — contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days.
Other US State Privacy Laws: residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Iowa, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Delaware, Nebraska, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights to access, correct, delete, opt-out of targeted advertising and data sales, and limit use of their personal information. To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframe required by your state's law (typically 45 days, with possible extensions).
Right to appeal (multiple states): if we deny your privacy rights request, you have the right to appeal by replying to our denial email. We will respond to your appeal within 60 days. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state Attorney General to submit a complaint.
Illinois Residents (BIPA Disclosure): we store only a non-biometric, encrypted verification token derived from your video submission. We do not store biometric identifiers or biometric information as defined by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). Contact [email protected] with any biometric data questions.
Texas Residents (CUBI Disclosure): as with our Illinois practices, we do not retain biometric identifiers under the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act. Raw video is deleted within 24 hours and only a non-biometric token is retained.
Biometric Privacy — All States: because we delete the raw video selfie within 24 hours and store only a non-biometric token, we do not retain biometric identifiers as defined by most state biometric privacy laws. Contact us at [email protected] with any biometric privacy questions.
All data rights requests will be fulfilled within 30 days for the federal and Apple/Google requirements, or 45 days for state-specific privacy law requests, unless your state law provides for a longer or shorter timeframe. For urgent requests, email [email protected] with "URGENT" in the subject line.
SECTION 8 — SECURITY
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures including encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, and regular security assessments. Specifically:
1. All sensitive operations — including subscription status changes, verification status updates, and rate limit enforcement — are processed exclusively on our server-side infrastructure (Firebase Cloud Functions). Our app frontend never communicates directly with our database for sensitive writes, which prevents unauthorized data manipulation.
2. Firestore Security Rules restrict every read and write to authenticated users acting on their own data, with additional rules preventing access to other users' private information.
3. All photos and media are stored in Firebase Storage with encrypted-at-rest protection and signed URLs that expire.
4. We retain audit logs of all moderation actions for the period specified in Section 6.
Data Breach Notification: in the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users via email within 72 hours of confirming the breach, in compliance with applicable state and federal data breach notification laws. We will provide details about what data was affected and what steps we are taking in response.
No security measure is absolutely perfect. While we make every reasonable effort to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe.
SECTION 9 — CHILDREN'S PRIVACY AND AGE VERIFICATION
Intentional is strictly an 18+ adult dating service. The Service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account. Date of birth is collected during signup and used to gate access — any account belonging to a person under 18 will be terminated and their data deleted upon discovery.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact [email protected] immediately so we can delete the data. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. 6501 et seq., and the COPPA Rule, 16 CFR Part 312, as amended.
State App Store Accountability Acts (ASAA) — age signal compliance: Some US states (including Utah, Louisiana, and others) require app stores to provide developers with age category signals for users in those states. Where an app store provides us with such an age signal:
We use the signal solely to enforce our 18+ requirement and refuse account creation to any user signaled as under 18.
We do not retain the age signal beyond the verification check.
We do not share the age signal with any third party.
We do not use the signal for any purpose other than age compliance.
This complies with the data minimization and use-limitation requirements of state ASAA laws, including the February 2026 FTC policy statement requiring narrow, purpose-limited age data collection.
SECTION 10 — NON-CONSENSUAL INTIMATE IMAGERY (TAKE IT DOWN ACT)
We comply with the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act and prohibit non-consensual intimate imagery on the Service. If you believe an image of you has been uploaded or shared on Intentional without your consent, including any AI-generated or digitally manipulated intimate imagery, contact [email protected] with subject "TAKE IT DOWN Request." We will remove confirmed non-consensual intimate imagery within 48 hours of valid notice and will preserve relevant records for law enforcement as required by federal law.
SECTION 11 — CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
